After a long and much needed break from touring, I've managed to realign myself with what has been going on. Social media has been evolving and I've been left in the dark. Only until recently have I discovered the shift in popular entertainment and social media trends, and I'm eager to get back on board, I think the best move is to starting with a new website.
Some how I lost the domain name robertmuraine.com which became an obstacle i wasn't able to get over for the past 4-5 years, and 25 year old careless me didn't want to take responsibility to solve the simple problem. It was only until after my 30 year old crisis of an epiphany, did the ol light bulb click back on to tell me to update and create new website. But not just to have one to have one, as a means to take the first steps towards a bigger, distant goal, to create a new brand.
Robert Muraine's Cabaret Cocktail, the worlds first variety show on youtube. Only 3 months into the project planning and creation did I realize I was completely in over my head. I had the ability to organize everything, but the inability to execute anything. I had to learn how to speak, before I could learn how to host, I had to learn how to direct before directing. I had realized that just like any art form, we must start from scratch. This realization led me completely backwards on an entirely different, even more bizarre path, that is the path of vlogging.
My initial thoughts about volgging weren't exactly optimistic, I wasn't a fan. Shortly after doing very little research, I found the good vloggers. The vlog gods, Peter McKinnon, Andrew Huang, etc. Now I had mentors that could show me the way. Nope, not easy either. Super difficult, entirely new art form, but this time I was determined. I had figured if I can't vlog aka talk about my own experiences and be myself, how was I supposed to be a host for a youtube series?
So now I'm 2 weeks into my journey of being a vlogger, and the progress I've made is exponential. I've managed to have 2 very serious run throughs of one of my first vlog topics: 5 mistakes I made when I first started dancing, neither up to par for the channel, but I definitely feel I'm on to something. I also have been going live more often on social media and practicing talking to the camera in public, and working on getting over the uncomfortable feeling of talking to yourself. I actually find the whole experience therapeutic, and I feel like i finally found a medium that allows me think critically about my past and future, my goals and accomplishments. Vlogging. Hell, I think that this first blog I'm typing is actually a great topic to make a video to relaunch the youtube channel with! It's all connected.
So finally, I hope that in about 24 hours from now 'muraine show.com' will be live, celebrating the kick off to the first step of the many steps to come to reaching my goal of having my own show! Stay tuned, because I think it will come quicker than you think!
Peace,
Robert Muraine
